Facts in Brief:-
The victim was the student of Class IX in “Bager Bazar High School”.
While on 25th June,15 at about 7 p.m. the victim girl was proceeding on foot towards her home Bager Bazar after purchasing costumes, all on a sudden Md. Rajib son of Md. Motahar Hossain, Md. Rajan Hossain and 3) Motahar Hossain appeared and intercepted the victim, forced her to board a Micro Bus and other perpetrators helped each other to chase the victim with ill intention to abduct for forceful conversion to Islam.
The incident witnessed by Redoy Debnath-younger brother of victim who reported father and mother for such unfortunate incident. Later on the father and mother of victim came to know that those perpetrators participated the incident of kidnapping and they have been given to understand that their daughter has been converted to Islam; and as such the perpetrators will not return back Ms.Antara (Priyanka) to the legal guardian of the victim.
Legal Action: -
Father of the victim informed local police about missing of his daughter on 26.06.2015, but the police did not act as per written allegation as the complaint(FIR) was not in accordance with law. Even police did not help lodging F.I.R. as per provision of law.
Investigation:-
Father and mother of the victim came to our office to-day on 1st of August, 2015 and gave us a written appeal for giving legal assistance. As soon as we get power I, on behalf of Bangladesh Minority Watch communicated with the Officer in Charge of Joydevpur police Station at Gazipur District, who assured us that a case would be registered as per provision of law. I also interrogated father, mother and younger brother of the victim and all cried for legal assistance to rescue the victim and for arresting the perpetrators to justice. We also took statements of the legal guardian and we video recorded their statements. I have also sent them to Joydevpur police station for lodging F.I.R. against the perpetrators. We also took power of attorney from the legal guardian for the purpose of legal assistance.
Recommendations: -
Bangladesh Minority Watch is deeply concerned about abduction of minority school girl . We demand:
1) Immediate rescue of the girl from the hands of perpetrators;
2) The perpetrators should be brought to book as per law
3) Why F.I.R lodged after the occurrence on 26.06.2015 at police station by the father of victim should be answerable by police as the delay caused by police will certainly render the case in fructuous.
4) The so-called forceful conversion of minor girl should be investigated.
5) The so called marriage with Muslim perpetrators, if any, should be investigated.
6) The Women and Children should be protected as per international protocol.
7) The Minorities should be protected.
