His wife Rafida injured 27.02.15
Dhaka, Feb 26 (UNB) – Obhijit Roy, son of Prof Ajoy Roy and founder of Muktamoa blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured seriously as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University (DU) Campus on Thursday night.
Obhijit Roy, 40, son of ex-DU Prof Ajoy Roy, succumbed to his injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 10:20pm.
Mozammel Haq, in-charge of DMCH police camp, said Dr Sohel Ahmed, an on-duty physician at its emergency unit, pronounced him dead.
Police and witnesses said the couple came under attack by the miscreants around 9:30pm while they were having tea at a tea stall near TSC after visiting the Ekushey Book Fair 2015.
The criminals stabbed them indiscriminately with machetes, leaving them seriously injured.
Later, pedestrians and DU students took them to the DMCH where Obhijit died. His wife Rafida Afrin, 32, was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Obhijit Roy and Rafida, an expatriate couple living in the USA, returned home a few days back as his two books were published on the occasion of the Ekushey Book Fair.
The motive behind the attack could not yet be known.
Earlier on April 27, 2004, a group of zealots made a similar attack on noted writer Prof Humayun Azad while he was returning home from the book fair, leaving him critically injured.
After his recovery, Prof Humayun Azad went to Munich, Germany to conduct a research work, where he died on August 11 the same year.

On December 22, 2013, in the evening, a few radical Muslims kidnapped and murdered samya bepari (age 2 years and 3 months), son of Mrs. Mallika Bepari, minority hindu individual living in the village of Nayakandi within the Kalkini police station’s jurisdiction in the district of Madaripur. It has been learnt, Mrs. Mallika Bepari was being threatened through calls to her cell phone
“leave Bangladesh and go to India…any failure in this case will be dangerous”.
The Hindu housewife lost her husband Mr. Satyen Bepari two years back and from then local Islamists planned to appropriate her property. At the beginning, she was asked to sell off the property but she refused and decided to protect the property. Locals deem the brutal murder of her infant child as fallout of revenge. A criminal case No. – 15/23/12/2013 has been filed by the police but none has been arrested yet. Hindus in the area are panic-stricken.

The Hindus of Bangladesh Fear for Their Future
Subhash Ghosh, back, and his brother stand in the ruins of their family home in Satkhira, Bangladesh. The home was razed by Islamists seeking to drive minority Hindus from their holdings.
Subhash Ghosh was away when, early on Dec. 13, dozens of activists from Bangladesh’s largest Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), descended on the home in which generations of his family have lived. They paid particular attention to his valuables, smashing TVs and looting gold. They gave the same treatment to the home’s Hindu shrine. Then they torched the property.
On Jan. 5, Bangladesh concluded what many judge to have been the country’s most violent election to date. But in the rural Satkhira district something much more substantial than ballot papers is at stake. Here, minority Hindus are targeted for their land.
“When anything happens, Hindus get attacked in Bangladesh,” explains Ghosh, 63, standing in the verdant greensward at the back of his house. Even if it weren’t ruined, he would be too scared to live in it. “They came at around 9:30 and suddenly set fire to the building with petrol bombs and gunpowder,” he explains.
The district of Satkhira lies only a few miles from the Indian border and just north of the world’s largest mangrove forest, the Sundarbans. It is spliced by creeks and tributaries that form the final reaches of the Ganges riverine plain. With a large Hindu minority, this area has seen some of Bangladesh’s worst violence over the past year. Much of that violence is down to land — or rather its scarcity.
With a population in excess of 160 million crammed into less than 148,000 sq km, Bangladesh is one of the world’s most densely populated countries. To make matters worse, almost the entire country lies in a floodplain, with lives, farms and crops constantly hanging in the balance. The pressure on land is enormous.
“When we say it’s just political, it legitimizes the violence,” explains Jyotrimoy Barua, a Supreme Court lawyer in the capital Dhaka. “Most of the people’s houses they are burning are [those of the] poor. If you burn their house, they will leave the country, and you get their land.”
Ghosh, who fought for Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971, is determined not to give his enemies that satisfaction. “If we leave the country, then everybody will take our property,” he says. “I cannot leave and be a rickshaw puller in India like a coward.”
In Satkhira’s isolated villages, however, there is palpable fear. Ghosh’s sons, like many Hindu children, can no longer go to school. When we visit a Hindu community, dozens emerge out of the mist and huddle around us, explaining how they are unable to travel the small rural lanes alone for fear of attacks by Islamists. A local journalist we are traveling with receives threatening calls from an Islamist leader.
In parts of Satkhira, the Islamists are a law unto themselves. The village of Agordari lies just a few miles from Satkhira’s main town, but the police dare not visit. Locals call it “East Pakistan,” run as it now is by the JI, which supported Pakistan in the 1971 war. The authorities are trying to restore order. “People didn’t come out of their houses, no vehicles, no people, no nothing, like a graveyard,” is how the new chief of police for the district, Chowdhury Monzirul Kabir, describes the atmosphere after a recent crackdown that saw 90 arrests. But fear of the Islamists persists.
There clearly is a sectarian basis to attacks on Hindus. Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League (AL) was voted into power in 2009 on the strength of its promise to try pro-Pakistan figures for atrocities committed during the 1971 war, and violence often accompanies attempts to mete out justice to war criminals. The hanging of JI leader Abdul Quader Mollah, on Dec. 12 last year, preceded the attack on Ghosh’s house.
However, the sectarian issue is exacerbated by intense competition for usable land. After the monsoon of 2011, tens of thousands of Satkhira’s small holdings — almost half the homes in the district — were ruined by waterlogging, which occurs when groundwater saturates the soil and makes agriculture extremely difficult or impossible.
The violence isn’t just perpetrated by JI. In other provinces, opportunistic AL leaders have been accused of using divisive communal sentiments to enrich themselves. “In some constituencies, it’s Awami League,” says the lawyer Barua. Both the AL and JI, he says, “are tussling from the same group of voters — if anyone loses, he blames the Hindus.”
Hindu Persecution in Bangladesh on Friday 20 March 2015 attackers unabated in Awami rule
Bangladesh Hindu Persecution under Awami League Govt unabated.
Pinakpani Das | HENB | Dhaka | March 21, 2015:: So called ‘Secular’ Awami League Govt in Bangladesh is becoming more and more indifferent to address the current Hindu persecution in Bangladesh and some how the black days of ‘Communal’ BNP regimen are returning fast as thunderstorm over the Hindu minorities in the country with 1.2 Crore Hindus.
Thanks to a section of Bangladesh media who regularly flashes some of the atrocities on Hindus for their demeaning identity as ‘Kaffir’ or ‘Malaun’, though not exhaustive.
On 27 Feb, Friday, Muslim miscreants destroyed the Shiva Temple in Alisharkul-Baropala village in Sreemangal (upazila) in Moulavi Bazar district of Sylhet division. Sri Jahar Tarafdar of Sreemangal Puja Udjapon Parishad told HENB reporter that Hindus in that locality have been observing various Hindu religious programmes in the temple complex of Mangal Chandi from pre-partition age of India and pakistan. This complex has five decorated temples viz Shiva, Radhagovinda, Bhairav, Kali and Mata Mangal Chandi. In that fall of the night of Friday, one nearby resident, Ranjit Das heard some alarming sounds of breaking something with commotion of people. When the local Hindu villagers chased, the miscreants fled away. But, the Shiva Deity of the temple was seen broken into pieces in a very miserable condition. An FIR has been lodged, but the Muslim SI of Sreemangal PS tried to switch over the matter by saying,’any Hindu might do it in drunken jolly’.

In Chandpur District of Chittagong Division, armed Muslim hooligans led by Abul Hossain Patwari, Kamrul Patwari and Rassel Patwari attacked the local Hindu shop-keepers of Natun Bazar in front of Electric Office all on a sudden. The Muslim gang looted the Hindu shops rampantly and destroyed the Hindu assets on broad day light on 27 Feb, Friday. Bangladeshi Muslims now prefer Friday for attacking Hindus, may be for any great Islamic reason! Anyway the protesting Hindus lodged an FIR vide 55 of Chandpur Model PS dt. 28/02/2015, but no miscreants were arrested so far. Advocate Ranjit Roychoudhury, Secretary of Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad expresses his resentment for the police non-action and he opined that opines that Hindu minorities in Bangladesh are the regular victim of land and business grabbing by the Majority Muslim fundamentals.
In its report under the headline, “Gender Violence and Land Grabbing Increased in 2014“, the UNREPRESENTED NATIONS AND PEOPLES ORGANIZATION, scribed a pitiable condition of the minorities living in Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh. The revealing reports say, “210 families migrated from Bangladesh to neighbouring countries after experiencing threats and land grabbing organized by state affiliated actors in 2014. In addition, gender based violence doubled during the same year resulting in 122 cases of sexual and physical violence against women and girls. If the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord will not be respected and implemented until April 2015, the region might face turmoil and escalation of violence.”

On the very Friday on 27 March, the family of Sri Lakhshan Chandra Barman (80 years) was evicted from their age old paternal residence of Nilfamari’s (Nilphamari in Rangpur Division) Jaldhaka Municipal Town. Being evicted from there landed property on JL No 57 of CS Khatian No 138 and SA Khatian No 166, all the 1o members of Barman family took refuge in Jaldhaka Town and giving a sitting demonstration in front of the concerned District Magistrate for a justice. Burman family purchased that landed property from a Hindu, measuring 2 acre and 46 satak for making residential house and agriculture. But, on 25 February some Muslim land grabbers led by Safulla Mamud, Rafiqul, Saidul, Golap, Mokhlechar and Motaleb forcefully captured 25 satak of land within the Burman’s residential plot and started torture. On Friday, the Muslim hooligans started threatening the Burman families brandishing swords and firearms and finally evicted the Hindu family from their home.
A tribal student of Xth standard was gangraped at Dighinala Banbihar area in Khagrachari District. The adolescent Buddhist girl was to attend a religious programme of “Mahamangal Sutra Path”, but intercepted by Chatra League leader (Student wing of Awami League) Sohel Rana and his gang and raped overnight at Kabakhali area.
From above it is evident most of the attacks are made on Friday and Bangladesh Police has nothing to do it as if directed by the present Awami League Govt in Bangladesh. The ruling Awami league’s student wing Chatra League was involved in Biswajit killing in Dhaka. The popular anti Hijab Hindu nurse Anjali Chowdhury’s killing was also perpetrated by Chara League, as concerned persons opined. And ‘Muktomona’ Avijit Roy’s killing in this Awami League regime is a shame to all. How, it may be called the present Awami League Govt as a saviour of Hindu Minorities in Bangladesh? Actually, it is proved now that the BNP and Awami League are the two sides of a same Fundamental coin in Bangladesh.
Obviously, this Awami League Govt in Bangladesh is the friends of the Friday attackers on minority people in Bangladesh.
